Other game portals pit free-to-play games against subscription games and this gives an unfair advantage to the bigger players. We’ve strived to develop an award system sensitive to that disparity
San Jose, Calif. (Vocus/PRWEB) February 01, 2011
ggFTW, a leading MMO and MMORPG game portal owned and operated by Gavist Media, today announced the official launch of its “Game of the Year” program designed to honor the most outstanding games of 2011 and each subsequent year. All awards will be given for free-to-play, client-based MMO and MMORPG games. The ggFTW Game of the Year awards will fall into four categories:
1. Game of the Year. This award will be given for a game entering full, commercial release in the year for which it is nominated. The award will be given to the best, all-around MMO or MMORPG game considered in terms of graphics, gameplay, audio, community quality, publisher quality, and an overall “fun” factor. Games will be nominated by community members and the winner will be selected by the ggFTW Games Team staff.
2. Most Improved. This award will be given for the game which, based upon the criteria for Game of the Year, improved the most in the year for which it is awarded. Games will be nominated by community members and the winner will be selected by the ggFTW Games Team staff.
3. Community Choice Award. This award is analogous to the Game of the Year award except nominations and selection will be handled completely by the ggFTW community facilitated by the ggFTW staff.
4. Most Anticipated. This award will be given for the game deemed most anticipated based upon prior year hype or beta testing, i.e. Most Anticipated of 2012 will be awarded based upon review in 2011. The game must not have entered full release in the qualifying year to be considered but may have entered alpha or beta testing. Games will be nominated by community members and the winner will be selected by the ggFTW Games Team staff.
“We believe that our angle on the Game of the Year awards is unique,” said Paul Stout, CEO of Gavist Media. “Other game portals pit free-to-play games against subscription games and this gives an unfair advantage to the bigger players. Free-to-play publishers just simply do not have the same competitive advantages of big name subscription publishers and we’ve strived to develop an award system sensitive to that disparity.”
A system by which community members may nominate games for these awards will be available by Q3 of 2011. Badges for game winners are in development; ggFTW will grant limited licenses to publishers of winning games to display logos on their websites or use in game-related collateral. ggFTW will decide and publish the first year of winners in January, 2012 for calendar year 2011.
