Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 18, 2012
MSDSonline Inc. (MSDSonline.com), a leading developer of cloud-based EH&S compliance management solutions, today announced that Glenn Trout, president and CEO of MSDSonline, will be joining Jennifer Silk, former deputy director of standards and guidance for OSHA to talk about the recently revised Hazard Communication Standard during an April 19 Webinar hosted by ASSE, the American Society of Safety Engineers.
The Webinar, titled, “A Review of OSHA's Revised Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) - Conforming to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS)” will cover history of the rulemaking, OSHA’s approach to the rule, a review of the standard and modifications, and ways employers can prepare for compliance.
The Webinar runs 90 minutes and is open to all, with special discounts for ASSE members. Registration is online at http://eo2.commpartners.com/users/asse/session.php?id=8728.
Date: April 19, 2012. Time: 2:00 EST.
“This Webinar is for everyone covered by the HCS trying to figure out what GHS adoption means for their business,” said Trout. “We’ll cover the nuts and bolts of the rule, as well as, practical steps companies can take to ensure compliance. And we’ll have time for questions.”
GHS was developed by the United Nations as a global approach to classifying hazardous chemicals and communicating those hazards to downstream users via safety data sheets and labels. In March, the United States became one of the growing numbers of countries to revise its hazard communication regulations to align with the recommendations outlined in the GHS.
According to Trout, the revised HCS (which OSHA calls HazCom 2012) affects three primary groups: chemical manufacturers, distributors and employers — each having unique responsibilities and deadlines under the new standard.
Trout Said, “Chemical manufacturers and distributors must reclassify their chemicals using GHS classifications and produce GHS formatted labels and safety data sheets. Employers must train their employees on how to read the new formats, as well as, on any new hazards based on GHS classification. Employers have the first deadline, December 1, 2013 to get employees up to speed on the new formats.”
