GL Communications Inc announced today its enhanced PacketScan™ software, an All-IP Packet Analyzer with unique triggering and search capabilities for “Calls of Interest”.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Jagdish Vadalia, Senior Manager for product development of the company said, “Quality of VoIP service has always been a concern for carriers and service providers who know that being proactive in monitoring voice quality means keeping customers happy. There are free applications such as Wireshark® that can be used to capture and listen to Mu-law and A-law calls. It can also be used to view reports of packet conditions such as packet loss and jitter that degrade quality. While powerful, Wireshark® has limitations when being used for general quality monitoring tool but GL's PacketScan™ address those limitations with its rich quality monitoring features.”

Its complex filtering and search capabilities help isolate required frames.

As a Single Point Analysis System, PacketScan™ has been enhanced to work with GL's VoiceBand Analyzer (VBA) and Call Data Records (CDR) applications to provide useful call detail records for further analysis using built-in tool in Excel®. It is now supports a variety of protocols over IP and Wireless networks such as SIP, MGCP, MEGACO, H.323, Skinny, LTE, Diameter, UMTS, GSM, and GPRS carried over SCTP transport layer. With its central monitoring application PacketScanWEB™, the PacketScan™ also provides comprehensive view of network performance.

PacketScan™ also supports wide variety of industry standard codecs like AMR, AMR-WB, EVRC and more. The enhanced application also provides QOS Parameters, E-model (G.107) based MOS/R-Factor scores, Media Delivery Index (Delay Factor: Media Loss Rate) for video calls, H.263, H.264 codec support and Jitter, Delay, and Gap for Audio and Video traffic.

The applications’ traffic handling feature helps segregation of IP traffic, VoIP, and Fax calls. It also helps capture fax calls and extract fax images in TIFF format, provides audio capture/playback (listen and record RTP (Audio) streams), and record video and video QoS statistics. Performance metrics such as signaling, audio, and video QoS parameters for each call can be obtained.”
