X Games Spectators Seeking More Affordable Lodging Are Booking in Nearby Glenwood Springs

The ESPN X Games 2013 launch into another year of gravity-defying competition Jan. 24-27 in Aspen, Colorado, but savvy fans of the extreme sports event are booking lodging in Glenwood Springs where room rates cost 75 percent less on average, a winning deal by any standard.

The world’s best snowsports athletes will be congregating in Aspen, Colorado, for the 12th annual ESPN X Games, Jan 24-27. The opportunity to witness athletes perform daredevil stunts draws a worldwide audience. That makes finding an affordable room in the fabled resort town about as likely as landing a double McTwist 1260, a snowboarding trick made famous by X Games Superpipe champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White. Knowledgeable fans, however, have some tricks of their own for landing a money-saving deal of extreme proportions: book a room in nearby Glenwood Springs where affordable lodging prices save them a bundle!

“The X Games take place just 40 minutes away; it’s a huge draw for Glenwood Springs,” said Lisa Langer, vice president of tourism marketing for the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association. “Why pay $300 or $400 a night, when you can stay for a fraction of that price just minutes away in Glenwood Springs?”

X Games guests will find nearly every hotel in Glenwood Springs offers lower room rates than those in Aspen. The Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge is offering an X Games package that includes both breakfast and unlimited admission to the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool starting at only $149 per night, or $139 when booked for three nights. Other specials that coincide with the X Games include Courtyard by Marriott with a rate of $139. Guests staying at the Residence Inn by Marriott have the added convenience of in-room kitchens for $159. The Hotel Colorado has a rate of $129 during the X Games. Brettleberg Condos, located slopeside at Sunlight Mountain Resort, is offering 20 percent off rooms, and one of the best deals around can be found at the Starlight Lodge for only $59 per night. With the savings, X Games fans have plenty left for spending on dining and other area activities and attractions.

Glenwood Springs is located just 40 miles north of Aspen along Highway 82. In addition to a large inventory of affordable lodging, X Games visitors will find Glenwood Springs has its own set of extreme winter adventures; try soaking in the world-famous Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, riding the alpine coaster at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park or even taking a natural steam bath in one of the few underground vapor caves in North America.

The ESPN X Games 2013 take place Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 24–27, at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado. The four-day event schedule includes Ski Big Air, Ski Slopestyle, Ski Superpipe, Snowboard Big Air, Snowboard Slopestyle, Snowboard Superpipe, Snowboard Street, and five disciplines of snowmobiling including Adaptive, Best Trick, Freestyle, SnoCross and Speed and Style. Events are free to the public. Guests staying in Glenwood Springs can drive or take the Roaring Fork Transit Authority (RFTA) buses from stops around town to the Brush Creek Intercept Lot in Aspen where designated X Games shuttles will transport fans to the event site.
