The Global Spa Summit (GSS), the leading annual event for the spa and wellness industries, today announced two high-profile keynote speakers for the upcoming conference in Bali, Indonesia. John Hardy, jewelry designer and environmental activist, will present on innovative sustainable practices and design. And Emmanuelle Linard, Executive Director of prominent trend forecasters Edelkoort Inc., will help delegates identify trends in consumer tastes, lifestyles, design, beauty and well-being set to impact the spa and wellness industries.

A key goal of the 2011 GSS, under its banner “Engage the Change: The Customer. The Money. The Future,” is to broaden delegates’ perspectives by bringing in thinkers working in outside industries with fresh, “future-focused” ideas.

About John Hardy: Jewelry designer, Bali celebrity and Green School Founder, Hardy is globally recognized as a visionary in concepts of sustainable living and design. In 1975, the Canadian-born Hardy moved to Bali to study traditional Balinese jewelry-making techniques, and in 1989 founded his luxury jewelry brand, now sold across the world. As the first company to offset carbon emissions from its print advertising, business travel and electricity, Hardy became a major player in sustainable luxury.

Selling the company in 2007, John and his wife Cynthia founded an extraordinary new project: Green School in Bali, which quickly garnered acclaim from international educators, environmentalists, architects and the press for its pioneering efforts to merge traditional academic education with sustainable practices. Situated in a lush Bali jungle, students from 40 countries (a significant percentage Balinese children on scholarship), learn in open-air structures made from local materials, tend acres of organic gardens and learn through a variety of sustainability projects, like building with bamboo. Green School attempts to achieve energy self-sufficiency through a combination of solar, bio-gas, and micro-hydro power, and the centerpiece is the spiraling “Heart of School,” Asia’s largest bamboo building. Summit delegates will have the option of touring the campus on Friday, May 13th or Saturday, May 14th.

Hardy’s keynote, “Bamboo, a Sustainable Spa at Last!” will delve into cutting-edge concepts in sustainability and design for the spa/wellness industries.

I look forward to sharing our 25-year expertise in trend forecasting with global spa and wellness executives.
