Schär USA Hosts "Living a Gluten-Free Lifestyle" Celiac Disease and Gluten-Free Awareness Event

Lyndhurst, NJ (Vocus) July 29, 2010

Schär USA, the domestic division of Dr. Schär, Europe’s largest producer of gluten-free foods, hosted a press event on July 21 at Espace, on 42nd St. in Manhattan, to help raise awareness to Celiac Disease and other gluten intolerance conditions. The event featured a multi-course, gluten-free luncheon prepared by award-winning chef, Jason Munger, as well as a presentation by Alessio Fasano, MD, Director, Center for Celiac Research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

In his speech to roughly 80 members of the health and food press, as well many notable bloggers from the gluten-free community, Dr. Fasano presented an overview of Celiac Disease research, past and present. Other presenters included Hannes Berger, Schär USA President and CEO, Ann Roland Lee, MSEd, RD, LD, Schär’s Director of Nutritional Services, and Colin Leslie, 18, of Rye, New York, who after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease in his early teens, went on to establish the Colin Leslie Walk for Celiac Disease, which has raised over $250,000 toward research.

During his presentation, Berger announced the upcoming opening of Schär’s new U.S. manufacturing facility, which will augment the company’s three existing production plants in Italy, Germany, and the UK.
