"Place the gluten-free dog biscuit on your pet’s muzzle."
Meridiam, ID (PRWEB) July 31, 2011
Sales of gluten-free, all-natural dog biscuits, introduced in June, have increased almost 40 percent during the past few weeks, helping Dynamite Specialty Products customers to train happier, healthier and better-behaved dogs.
Dynamite encourages reward-based dog training techniques using all-natural dog biscuits to improve dog nutrition, health and behavior.
Lavon Calzacorta, owner and trainer of one of the nation’s top sheep-herding dogs, gives tips for one easy dog trick, teaching your dog to balance a dog treat on its nose. He uses Dynamite’s paw-shaped, gluten-free dog biscuits. His theme is to, “Keep it simple, and keep it fun.”
To start, Calzacorta says, “It’s best to evaluate your dog to see what your dog does naturally. Next, try to get your dog to be comfortable staying in place.” Calzacorta suggests remaining close to your pet until it’s comfortable sitting still.
To train the dog to balance an all-natural dog biscuit on its nose, Calzacorta suggests having the dog sit, then placing the treat on the dog’s muzzle and holding your hand under its chin with a gentle pressure. Next, gradually remove that pressure.
Rather than expecting the dog to perform immediately, Calzacorta encourages “growing” the trick gradually. If the dog remains still for even a couple of seconds after removing the pressure from its chin, it is learning.
“The next important step,” says Calzacorta, “is to accompany the same action of placing the gluten-free biscuit on your pet’s muzzle with a command such as ‘balance’ and to challenge your pet to balance the all-natural dog treat for longer than two seconds.”
Finally, Calzacorta suggests refraining from forcing a pet to perform tricks for long periods of time. “It’s better to train your pet for around 15 minutes to encourage effective learning,” he says. “Once your dog loses interest, you aren’t going to gain any ground.”

Dynamite’s introduction of the all-natural, gluten-free Canine Cookie was a response to a need in the pet health community. “We had requests for healthy dog biscuits because so many dog treats have questionable ingredients, including chemical preservatives such as BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole), BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) and ethoxyquin,” said Callie Novak, Dynamite CEO.
“Several dog trainers who use our all-natural, gluten-free dog food, asked us for an easy-to-feed healthy dog treat to use in training sessions,” she added. “They also needed a hypoallergenic dog treat that will avoid triggering allergies.”
The paw-shaped, natural dog biscuits cost $19.95 for a 2.5-pound bag.
A family-owned business that has specialized in animal nutrition for four generations, Dynamite Specialty Products makes products for virtually every member of the animal kingdom. It has long developed all-natural dog food and nutritional supplements for show dogs across the country and prize-winning racehorses. Its specialists in dog nutrition and animal nutrition can recommend exactly what vitamins, minerals and other supplements best support dogs with allergies, horses with laminitis, cats whose owners make their own food, and cows with digestive issues.
Dynamite has worked with veterinarians and university researchers to produce specialty foods to correct nutritional deficiencies in animals ranging from Canadian muskoxen to peregrine falcons to zoo exotics.
Dynamite uses only natural ingredients made in the United States for better quality control. Throughout its history of making natural dog food, it has always looked at alternatives to animal by-products, antibiotics, chemical preservatives, fumigants, artificial coloring and other additives that have later caused dog allergies and other health problems. Its manufacturing processes are so stringently controlled that Dynamite has a separate mill to produce feed for herbivores, such as horses and poultry that are especially sensitive to contamination from meat needed by other species such as dogs and cats.
