Even before I had a fully functioning prototype, I showed kids, my professors and my classmates. Everyone was so excited about it. I knew I had to make it work.

Goblies, vibrant paintballs that throw like water balloons, launched their Kickstarter campaign Tuesday, June 30, and are looking to raise a total of $8K. Goblies are customizable paintballs that break on impact, creating a colorful splash for summertime fun.
Goblies are biodegradable, do-it-yourself blobs that are made from some of the same ingredients that can be found in pizza and ice cream. Each kit can make 100 Goblies and consists of food-based ingredients, cosmetic dyes and reusable molds. Different colored Goblies can be easily made by mixing any of the primary colored dyes. Additionally, users will find information about the chemistry behind Goblies in each kit, providing younger learners with fun facts about how they’re made.
Project creator, Briana Gardell, recently graduated from Lehigh University with a master’s degree in engineering in technical entrepreneurship. The idea for Goblies came to life through her work in the master’s program and was the grand prize winner in Lehigh University’s Eureka Venture Competition Series in November 2014.
"Feedback drove Goblies to become what they are today," said Gardell. "Even before I had a fully functioning prototype, I showed kids, my professors and my classmates. Everyone was so excited about it. I knew I had to make it work."
Goblies provide all the fun of water balloons without the hassle of picking up the remnants since the encapsulating shell is made from natural food-based ingredients, not latex. While actual paint leaves a sticky residue behind, Goblies are filled with a colorful wet powder that dries to a dust, so users are never left with a slimy feeling.
Goblies Starter Kits can be purchased on Kickstarter for $24, and additional refill packs of 100 Goblies can be added for $8, both of which include free shipping. Quantity discounts allow backers to purchase two kits for $40, three kits for $54 and five kits for $80.
