PETA helped these discounts go viral. We believe the NameCheap coupon alone has made its way to well over a million Twitter users' feeds
Madison, NJ (PRWEB) April 4, 2011
In response to recent controversial news around Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons sharing a video where he is seen shooting and killing an African elephant, many domain registrars and web hosting providers are offering deep discounts to entice outraged Go Daddy clients to transfer services. CouponFollow has tracked several companies, including NameCheap and Domain.com, who are offering discounts on their services in the form of a coupon code. This came after animal rights group PETA launched a boycott campaign against Go Daddy, asking others to move their domains away from the company.
“The coupon code BYEBYEGD at NameCheap lets users transfer their domain name for only $4.99, plus $1 goes to the Save the Elephants charity” stated CouponFollow founder Marc Mezzacca. CouponFollow has tracked over a thousand people that have retweeted this NameCheap coupon code in the past few days, making it one of the most popular on the CouponFollow site, as well as reaching millions of Twitter users. "PETA helped these discounts go viral. We believe the NameCheap coupon alone has made its way to well over a million Twitter users' feeds" Mezzacca estimates. The NameCheap coupon has been so successful its expiration has already been extended numerous times.
Discounts are also being offered on web hosting packages. For example, the site lists coupon code BADBOB, good for one free domain registration plus $30 off hosting at popular web hosting service DreamHost.
Most of the companies are also donating to charities. Domain.com released that they will donate to Heifer International, which helps feed hungry African families.
