Last year’s Goderich 1,000 pound Meltdown Challenge was a huge success with all the money we raised.

After the success of its inaugural 1,000 lb. Meltdown Challenge, the fitness boot camp business Fit Body Boot Camp Goderich will be hosting its 2nd Annual 1,000 lb. Meltdown Challenge starting June 3rd at its Goderich fitness center located at 199 Anglesea Street Goderich, Ontario.

Fit Body Boot Camp’s 1,000 lb. Meltdown Challenge’s goal is to inspire and motivate local community residents to lose a total of 1,000 pounds in 28 days. The fee to participate is discounted to $40 for the 28-day program, with 100% of the proceeds going to a local charity. Goderich Fit Body Boot Camp will be donating its proceeds to the North Huron Big Brothers Big Sister charity.

“Our on-going goal is to continue to inspire and motivate local communities to collectively lose weight,” says Bedros Keuilian, founder and President of Fit Body Boot Camp. “Obesity isn’t just a personal problem. It is a national and a global problem.”

According to the Statistics Canada, obesity levels in Canada and throughout the world continue to increase. It is estimated that more than half of Canadian adults, and approximately 20% of children and adolescents are obese. Globally, obesity levels are also on the rise.

Inspired by rising obesity statistics, Goderich Fit Body Boot Camp owner Nadine VandenHeuvel decided to launch her first 1,000 pound Meltdown Challenge in September of 2012, attracting a total of 65 members of the Goderich community who wanted to get fit for a great cause. The 1,000 pound Meltdown Challenge participants ended up melting away 600 lbs and raised an astonishing $1,100 with all proceeds donated to the Goderich Food Bank.

“I think that last year’s Goderich 1,000 pound Meltdown Challenge was a huge success with all the money we raised,” says Goderich Fit Body Boot Camp owner Nadine VandenHeuvel, she adds, “we even went out and bought the food for the Food Bank so there would be healthy food options, rather than just writing them a check. We took 10 campers to the grocery store and filled 10 grocery carts full! It was super fun.”

VandenHeuvel says she became a personal trainer to help men and women who were struggling with weight gain and lack of energy. That is how she decided to open up Goderich Fit Body Boot Camp, so she could provide a fun and exciting workout experience for her clients while pushing them to meet their fitness goals.

Melissa Wormington, a member of Goderich Fit Body Boot Camp, explains why she decided to join the fitness boot camp, “I joined the 1000lb challenge in Sept 2012 when I heard all proceeds were going to a local charity and for a very small fee. Plus I could go as often as I wanted – you can’t beat that! It was unlike any other program I had ever been a part of and by the end of the month I was addicted – to exercise! Who would of thought?”
