Europe is ahead of the curve in so many technology sectors, especially those impacted by cloud computing, so it just made sense for us to launch a channel and an event focused on European innovation.

GigaOM, a leading business and technology media company, today announced the launch of the GigaOM Europe channel, providing breaking news and analysis on European startups, venture capital, digital media, mobile, broadband, and emerging technologies. The company also announced it will host Structure:Europe 2012, a European version of its flagship cloud computing conference, on October 16-17 in Amsterdam.

Europe has long been an important market for GigaOM, and with its recent acquisition of paidContent, the company has even more local resources to cover European technology with greater depth. With the launch of GigaOM’s Europe channel, centers of innovation such as London and Berlin will receive the same level of insightful coverage as their American counterparts. GigaOM will provide readers with smart analysis, deep context, and thorough reporting on the most compelling new technologies, companies and personalities emerging from Europe and how they are impacting global innovation.

“Nowadays, when an app or new technology launches, it launches internationally and has to compete on that level,” said Bobbie Johnson, Europe editor for GigaOM. “Europe is ahead of the curve in so many technology sectors, especially those impacted by cloud computing, so it just made sense for us to launch a channel and an event focused on European innovation.”

Johnson, a veteran reporter and editor who has written for The Guardian, The BBC and others, is joined at launch by senior editor Robert Andrews, who previously headed paidContent:UK, as well as David Meyer in Germany.

The Structure:Europe conference meets a regional demand for a high-level forum around opportunities and innovation in cloud computing. Top innovators from Europe and Silicon Valley will join GigaOM editors to debate topics such as big data, PaaS, green cloud initiatives and global regulation. GigaOM Pro analysts who cover the European cloud market will also present overviews of the hottest sectors, key trends, and opportunities to watch.

Visionary speakers are already lining up to take the stage at Structure:Europe. Headliners include Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon; Tony Lucas, founder of Flexiant; Nick Halstead, founder and CTO of DataSift; Joe Wienman, CTO of Telx; Richard Nicholson, CEO and Founder of Paremus; Nelson Fonseca, president of Terremark; James Mitchell, CEO and founder of Strategic Blue; Robert Jenkins, CTO of CloudSigma; and JP Rangaswami, Chief Scientist at SalesForce. More speakers will soon be announced, and pre-registration is now open.

Europe is home to a vibrant technology industry, with world-leading companies in mobile, digital media, cloud technology, and e-commerce. The GigaOM Europe channel and the first annual Structure:Europe conference will deliver unparallelled insight into the next generation of companies emerging from important cities like London, Berlin, Moscow and Paris.
