In response to an increasing number of clients using the golfholidays.com restaurant reservation service, golfholidays.com has created Gourmet Golf to help wet the appetite of discerning golfers.

The north of France has long been a haunt of golfing gastronomes looking for delicious food close to home. And the French have served up some fabulous restaurants such as La Liegoise in Wimereux, Hostellerie de la Riviere in Pont de Briques, La Matelote in Boulogne, Flavios and Le Pavillon in Le Touquet and Chateau de Montreuil…With several Michelin stars among them all.

As well as the fine cuisine, there’s famous golf breaks too with such courses as Le Touquet La Mer, Hardelot Les Pins and Belle Dune rated among Europe’s best.

But now there’s another reason for even the most discerning “foodie” to cross the Channel…L’Auberge de la Grenouilliere in Madeleine-sous-Montreuil has been rated among the World’s Top 100 restaurants joining the likes of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, El Celler De Can Roca in Girona and Maison Pic in Valence.

“It’s a fabulous accolade for such a small hamlet to have,” says Morgan Clarke, Managing Director and restaurant officianado of golfholidays.com. “A great dinner is the perfect way to end the holiday on a high note and we’ve got a hot list of over 50 top-class restaurants as well as a Recommended Restaurant list for every destination we feature.”

“It’s long been a very good restaurant for a long time but the father and original Chef retired a few years ago and the son took over the reins and has pushed the boundaries, opened a brasserie in nearby Montreuil and also built a dozen so-called 'huts' (contemporary bedrooms to you and I) in the lovely grounds.”

Chef Gauthier offers an eight-course tasting menu for just over £70 with lunch at about £35 – terrific value for money. Cuisine is classic with more than a contemporary “twist.”

Morgan continues “Our clients tend to stay in nearby Le Touquet and Montreuil and we arrange a dinner and taxi reservation so they can enjoy a glass or two of wine. However, small groups and couples love the setting and theme of the huts and there are plenty of them who have a four-day 'golf and food' extravaganza with golf seen as a perfect way to walk off the calories between feasts."

A three night stay with one gastronomic dinner, delicious breakfasts, golf at Le Touquet and Belle Dune and Eurotunnel travel costs £490.00 per person.
