Rodent Guys is the most well-known gopher removal and exterminators in Southern California and they now offer pest control service for Garden Grove, CA.

Gopher season starts in March in Garden Grove and by April it is in full force. Rodent Guys Gopher Extermination Company says to expect an increase in population of gophers this year. The anticipation of a gopher population explosion is because of the changes in Federal laws restricting the use of the effective poisons previously used by qualified pros.

The recent legislation is even worse because the most effective chemical has been restricted and the next most effective is no longer available. Fumitoxin is no longer allowed for residential use. This chemical comes in dry tabs that when placed in the ground and react with water, will release phosphine gas. This deadly gas is extremely toxic and a very effective chemical.

The federal ban has restricted the use of Fumitoxin for any home and for non-residential uses it cannot be used within 100 feet of any structure. This poison is allowed at golf courses, cemeteries, or athletic fields; however, this poison cannot be used within one hundred feet of any structure, including pump houses, bathrooms, or neighboring property buildings even unoccupied structures like dog houses.

Pest control professionals used to have another poison similar to that available to homeowners but 3.5 times more potent. The poison was strychnine which is obtainable by homeowners at 0.5% strength. Up until recently a licensed operator could obtain 1.8% which worked much better. Because of a shortage on strychnine this is no longer available. Now even qualified professionals can only buy hardware store strength poison which has low effectiveness.

Rodent Guys claims the gopher problem is getting worse. The lower strength poisons are creating a problem for extermination companies to gain control of burrowing pests on properties. The available poisons are not gaining the control levels and the gopher populations are increasing. Many pest control companies have stopped offering gopher control because they cannot keep customers happy under the new laws.

Rodent Guys says they were forced to change their methods all together and rarely use poisons. The techniques now involve carbon monoxide gas and trapping. Owner of Rodent Guys, Nick Nielsen, says he likes traps because outside of Fumitoxin it is the most effective method. Carbon Monoxide gas is also used in their new methods which increases the effectiveness and helps to eliminate babies in the nest as well.

Rodent Guys predicts they will be among the few gopher service companies to be around because they continually evolve their techniques to meet the standards of the changing regulations and still achieve high control levels.
