With the help of other businesses and individuals, we can all play a role in supporting our 'fallen but not forgotten' heroes and their families.
Scottsdale, Arizona (PRWEB) October 11, 2011
Today in the United States, around 900,000 law enforcement officers put their lives on the line in protection of others and sadly, each year approximately 160 are killed in the line of duty. An annual cycling event known as the Police Unity Tour brings officers from across the U.S. together for a ride from Portsmouth VA to Washington D.C., in honor and remembrance of these fallen heroes. Participating officers seek to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, established as a place for friends, family and supporters to come together in honor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our nation and its people.
“GPS Intelligence is proud to be a part of the effort to support this worthy cause”, said Jeff Evert, company President. “With the help of other businesses and individuals, we can all play a role in supporting our ‘fallen, but not forgotten’ heroes and their families.”
Officers participating in the Police Unity Tour seek to raise a minimum of $1,800 to make the 250 plus-mile ride. The Tour, which began with 18 riders, has grown to over 1,200 riders and has provided almost $10 million to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
NLEOM Fund Objectives Include:
- Operating a Memorial, Visitors Center and Museum
- Researching past and current deaths of officers killed in the line of duty
- Conducting ceremonies and other events at the Memorial
- Working towards preventing police fatalities
- Promoting the Memorial as a major tourist attraction
- Recognizing the anniversaries of all line-of-duty deaths
- Maintenance of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial
- Creation of the National Law Enforcement Officers Museum
The Memorial, located in Washington D.C., includes the engraved names of over 19,000 officers who have died in the line of duty, beginning with the first in 1791, and including those that lost their lives on 9/11.
