“The encounters, adventures and anecdotes that occur along the way offer a warm, irreverent and unique perspective on the country,” says Allen, “and, more importantly, the people that make it up."

In “Is That Fat Foreigner Rich?: Murphy Goes to China” (published by AuthorHouse), author Graeme Allen’s new biography, the author takes readers through a hilarious, deeply personal account of his time building a career, a relationship and a life in China.
“The encounters, adventures and anecdotes that occur along the way offer a warm, irreverent and unique perspective on the country,” says Allen, “and, more importantly, the people that make it up.
Written in first person, the book immediately creates an open and welcoming tone, which helps engage readers without being unnecessarily overt. It then pushes on to take readers deep into the author’s life, into a world they never knew existed. It helps them see, with humor, how the other side of the world looks and acts.

About the Author
Graeme Allen, an Irish–Australian, has lived and worked in China for 20 years. Allen had an interesting career prior to his life in China: he built and ran a small hotel in Clifden in the west of Ireland and following this, joined the Irish Tourist Board as a hotel advisor to the fledgling Irish hotel industry. He then assumed a marketing role in both Northern Ireland and Australia, which also included responsibility for South East Asia.
Allen has a unique perspective on China, as he’s lived in six Chinese cities in five different provinces. He has a Chinese wife and, by default, an extended Chinese family. In his first 12 years in China, he worked for 10 different companies and has experienced the best – but mostly the worst – of Chinese and international practices in China. Now semi-retired, he and his wife, Lee, run a successful Irish gastropub, the Flying Fox, in Jinqiao, which is a suburb of Shanghai.
