New focus on first-time grandparents; announces Lori Bitter as publisher; Michael and Rickie Beckwith grace cover.

We selected Lori as Publisher because she both understands and is our reader. Lori made her career by knowing the experiences, influences and values of mature readers, and understands what they care about and what motivates them.

GRAND Magazine, relaunches with its September/October seventh anniversary issue, to be distributed September 1 in time for National Grandparents Day on Sunday September 11. The relaunch includes a new focus on first-time grandparents, presents a new publisher, a fresh tagline and features on the cover celebrities Michael Beckwith and his wife Rickie Byars Beckwith. Michael Beckwith is a New Thought minister, author and founder of the Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City, California with more than a million fans worldwide.

The enhancing changes to the magazine and addition of staff reflect a strategy to focus on new grandparents, grandkids and their parents. The issue will bear the new tagline ‘The Digital Magazine for Grandparents and their Families’ and showcases a new publisher, Lori Bitter, who reflects the reader as a first-time grandparent.

Lori made her career by knowing the experiences, influences and values of mature readers, and understands what they care about and what motivates them,” said Christine Crosby, CEO, GRAND Media LLC and Editorial Director, GRAND magazine. “She also reflects the new generation of grandparents: younger, from the baby boomer generation; eager about this new life stage and being actively involved in the lives of their grandchildren”.

The sheer numbers and financial strength of today’s grandparents is evident in the recently released The MetLife Report on American Grandparents – New Insights for a New Generation of Grandparents1, in collaboration with Peter Francese, published by the MetLife Mature Market Institute. One in every four American adults is a grandparent, according to the study. The number of grandparents is projected to increase rapidly over the next decade, rising from today's 65 million to a stunning 80 million in 2020 as more baby boomers become grandparents. The median age of new grandmothers is 50. The median age of new grandfathers is 54.
