The bike tour and adventure travel company, Great Freedom Adventures, will undertake a different sort of adventure on June 24, 2012. In support of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), the company will send a team of 12 to Lake George, NY to bike a challenging 50-mile course in the Adirondack Mountains surrounding the lake.

Team Great Freedom Adventures is riding to raise funds for medical research supported by CCFA and to raise awareness of the increasing incidence of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Crohn’s and colitis are chronic, painful and often debilitating digestive disorders for which there is no cure. Patients struggle with fatigue, joint pain, abdominal cramps, and painful intestinal blockages. Surgery is often required. About 1.5 million American adults and children suffer daily with these diseases.

CCFA’s mission is to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life of people affected by these diseases. The foundation is at the forefront of supporting groundbreaking research into the causes and potential cures of the diseases. Team Great Freedom Adventures, in conjunction with CCFA’s Team Challenge, will ride in support of family and friends suffering with Crohn’s or colitis.

“Having personally witnessed a family member suffer dramatic weight loss, daily pain, hospitalizations and surgeries as a result of Crohn’s disease, I have seen first-hand the pain and heartache associated with this disease. As a result, I understand the urgent need to alleviate suffering and to find a cure. Every one of us on Team Great Freedom Adventures knows someone with Crohn's or colitis so by raising money and riding together, we hope to help,” says Karen Hamm, Great Freedom Adventures guide and team member.

The epic Adirondack race event, organized by Centurion Cycling, will offer plenty of challenging hills while motivating riders to achieve their personal best with on-course cameras, helicopter filming, music and cheering spectators.
