"Thanks to the support of our members, donors, partners and friends, we have achieved so much in the past 20 years," stated Patti Ragan, Founder and Director of the Center for Great Apes, which is home to 45 apes, "There are so many chimpanzees and orangutans in need of our care." In the last three years the Center for Great Apes rescued six more apes, including four chimpanzees from residential homes and two orangutans from a research facility.
The Center for Great Apes was founded in 1993 by Patti Ragan who recognized the need for a permanent sanctuary to provide lifetime care for orangutans and chimpanzees in desperate situations. Over the past 20 years, the sanctuary has rescued apes from languishing in basement and garage cages as exotic pets, from performing in the entertainment industry, or from exploitation at deplorable roadside zoos. The Center for Great Apes has received recognition for its rescue and rehabilitation efforts. It is the only orangutan sanctuary in North America and one of the leading chimpanzee sanctuaries in the country. With 45 apes at the sanctuary, expenses are over $1.3 million annually. Memberships, donations, private grants and fundraising efforts support the sanctuary.
The 20th anniversary event is both a celebration and a major fundraising effort to benefit the Center for Great Apes. Sponsorship opportunities range from $500 to $10,000 and include tickets to the event, special recognition in promotional materials, and recognition through social media and other PR efforts. A sponsor packet with details is available by calling the Center for Great Apes at 863-767-8903 ext 222 or emailing Center(at)CenterForGreatApes(dot)org.
