Great Freedom Adventures announces its lineup of 2011 outdoor-adventure bike tours throughout New England and New York’s Hudson Valley.

Great Freedom Adventures has created unique, active vacations combining “green exercise” with green, low-impact travel in a way that is highly engaging and, simply put, a whole lot of fun. Select from eleven bike tours in four different regions rich in natural beauty and cultural diversity. The tours balance luxury and affordability, activity and relaxation. Guests stay at fine inns and resorts and eat gourmet dinners in acclaimed restaurants.

Other daily activities include sunset sails, lobster bakes, eco-kayak tours, river cruises, shopping and visits to wineries, mansions, gardens, lighthouses and historic sites that add to the enjoyment of and the immersion in each region. Add the high level of amenities, and Great Freedom Adventures provides a uniquely first-class, value-packed experience.

“Each trip I’ve taken has been fantastic,” says Ann Ross, a veteran participant. “The trips are so well organized. The sights we’ve seen and the experiences we’ve had have been amazing. Can’t wait for my fourth trip!”

Above all, participants in a Great Freedom Adventures tour stand to reap the many benefits of “green exercise”—outdoor exercise in natural “green” landscapes—which recent studies show is a potentially powerful solution in improving both the physical and the mental health of individuals.

“There is nothing like the physical and mental high that comes from reaching your destination under your own power after a day spent cycling through beautiful surroundings in the company of friends and family,” says Jeanne Rummel, founder of Great Freedom Adventures. “It’s nearly inevitable that your mood is lifted when you’re bike touring because you’re so actively engaged and present in the moment.”

Her claims are substantiated by recent studies in which researchers found that the simple practice of paying attention results in anatomical changes in the brain that result in stress reduction, and improved learning and memory.
