San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 20, 2007 -- West Coast Green, America's largest residential green building conference, today announced plans for its 2007 event, which will include more speakers, exhibitors and interactive learning spaces for its expected 12,000+ attendees.

The general mood of West Coast Green is a call for paradigm shifts
West Coast Green surprised the nation in 2006 by attracting 9,000 professionals and homeowners from all 50 states and 14 nations to its three-day inaugural event. Scheduled for September 20-22 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, West Coast Green 2007 will host presentations delivered by over 250 political leaders, industry analysts, green building experts and national celebrities. The list includes some of the building trades' most sought after experts including Sarah Susanka, Michelle Kaufmann, Bob Berkebile, Cameron Sinclair, David Eisenberg, Tom Paladino, Eric Corey Freed, Ed Mazria and many others.

September 20-21: Professional Trade Conference

With homebuilding leveling out across the nation, tens of thousands of traditional home building professionals are now exploring the only significant area of growth in the residential market: green building. To serve this diverse audience, the first two days' of West Coast Green's program stretches beyond typical workshop and presentation settings to inspire supportive collaboration and meaningful dialogue amongst building professionals.

Educational tracks include:

  • Construction
  • Design
  • Energy
  • Government & Policy
  • Health
  • Human Element
  • Landscape
  • Planning & Development
  • Purpose, Passion & Profit
  • Remodeling
  • Green Technology
  • Visioning
  • Water

September 22: Professional Trade Conference + Homeowner Day

Also celebrated for its unique "Homeowner Day", when the conference opens its doors on the third and final day to the general public, West Coast Green will host community leaders and visionaries, such as San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Hollywood actor Ed Begly Jr., environmental/civil rights leader Van Jones and many others. Homeowners looking to design and build a new, energy-efficient green home, or those looking to upgrade the efficiency of their existing homes, will benefit from walking the tradeshow floor, abounding with hundreds of products and services to build, remodel, power, insulate, clean, furnish and finance their green homes.

"The general mood of West Coast Green is a call for paradigm shifts," said Katie Kurtz of worldchanging.com in an editorial about West Coast Green. "The current environmental movement is now framed as a consumerist's movement."

Green Home on Display

To boost public awareness about green building and facilitate that paradigm shift, West Coast Green has partnered with Extreme Green Homes and Sunset Magazine to construct a high-performance green home in San Francisco's Civic Center Plaza in front of City Hall and the Bill Graham Civic Center where West Coast Green is held. Designed by Michelle Kaufmann, the mkLotus ™ home is built utilizing off-site modular technology and promises to feature the most advanced green technology and sustainable materials available on the market.

Interactive Spaces and the Human Element

West Coast Green 2007 will offer 8-12 large-venue interactive spaces designed to nourish ideas and encourage group dialogue, like the Action Hub, Conversation Café, Google's SketchUp Room and others. Those visiting the "Futures Room" will be inspired by new green technologies and urban initiatives which lie just over the horizon. Participants interested in engaging future generations will be invited to take their seats in an off-the-grid middle school classroom where high-tech Activboard lessons, synced with student computing platforms, are made possible by a "kid-driven" bicycle-powered generator. For attendees who need a rest from all of the activity, West Coast Green offers a Nap Room (with dimmed lights and tea service) and an Internet Café.

"I expected a typical tradeshow. What I got was a 3-day sensory thrill." said Ruth Altcheck, Senior Editor at Domino Magazine who attended West Coast Green 2006.

West Coast Green 2007 is sponsored by PG&E, Google, Sunset Magazine, Terra Mai, Sun Light & Power, Build It Green, the City of San Francisco, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Green Building Council and many others.
