A CEO or CIO of a company should not just wake up one day and declare that their company is going green in terms of technology. There should be a well-defined and articulated plan in place, because there are so many different areas within the larger information technology framework that should be considered in a larger green strategy.
Duluth, GA (Vocus) May 13, 2010
In a strategic move that will allow their companies to provide an increased range of data management and security services, Daniel Gottilla, senior consultant at Guidance Consulting, and Stuart Holland, CEO of Sygma Technology Solutions, are announcing plans for a partnership. Guidance Consulting, a Georgia-based firm, is providing a strong IT security background, while Sygma Technology will bring in years of experience in data and technical resource management.
One of the primary focuses of the new partnership will be Cloud Computing and other new technologies that tap into “greener,” more efficient ways to run a large network or IT infrastructure. Cloud Computing, which streamlines desktop applications and bulky hardware servers into a virtual platform that is both secure and provides an automatic data storage solution, is part of a new wave of services that reduce a company's costs and waste.
''This shift to virtual services and platforms is one that we're really excited about,'' says Gottilla. ''When you start moving things out of the office and away from data centers to tap into virtual resources, you can save time, money, employee training requirements, and the environment. It's a win-win situation all around.''
Additional services related to green technology will make up the bulk of the partnership's offerings, though Holland warns that the shift to a more ecologically-minded approach isn't one that comes overnight. According to Holland, “A CEO or CIO of a company should not just wake up one day and declare that their company is going green in terms of technology. There should be a well-defined and articulated plan in place, because there are so many different areas within the larger information technology framework that should be considered in a larger green strategy.”
As part of their new partnership, Guidance Consulting and Sygma Technology will offer everything from system evaluation and program implementation to regular monitoring and upgrades as they relate to information security and network restructuring. Both Gottilla and Holland stress that in order to successfully transition to more secure web-based applications, it's important to have a long-term plan with strategic goals and outcomes.
