Alvarez said, "We value this award as an important recognition of our original vision: to be in the major U.S. growth markets, as well as the key business and government centers, with top quality lawyers; to be part of the communities in which we practice; to be broad in our practices; to cater to a diverse client base; to be diverse in our makeup; and to do it all in a unique culture, where we are committed to individual respect, collaboration, change and results."

The other law firms shortlisted for this award include: Latham & Watkins LLP, Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Hogan & Hartson LLP, Morrison & Foerster LLP, and Ropes & Gray LLP. In 2006, Greenberg Traurig and Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP were selected as runners up for the award.
