Prime Location and Zoopla top Greenlight’s search report for Real Estate.

Greenlight, the UK’s leading independent specialist search engine optimisation (SEO) and pay per click (PPC) consulting firm, has released its first quarterly integrated research report for the Real Estate sector.
This latest research is based on 2.3 million online searches in Google in February 2010, with a focus on generic lettings keywords, generic sales keywords, lettings by location and sales by location. The data was then used to rank the 60 most visible websites, aggregators and brands on page one of Google’s search results in both natural and paid search.
With 823,000 searches, ‘For rent’ was the most queried term, accounting for 35% of all real estate-related searches. It was followed by ‘Houses for sale’ with 301,000 searches, which also saw a 71% increase in search volume from 193,000 in December 2009 to 334,000 in January 2010. ‘Property for sale’ followed with 110,000, accounting for 5% of searches.
In natural search, PrimeLocation, Fish4 and RightMove were the three most visible websites, achieving 70%, 62% and 54% visibility, respectively. Of the top ten websites, six were agent directories, two were holiday accommodation agents, one was an estate agent and one a search engine.
The paid search section of the report determines an advertiser’s share of voice based on how often they appear on Google, which ad position they are bidding for and the search volume generated for the keywords they bid on. The ranking represents visibility across the top 120 keywords in February 2010.
Zoopla was the most visible advertiser in paid search with 70% share of voice. Second and third positions were achieved by VivaStreet and Ask with 53% and 46% visibility respectively. Of the top 10 advertisers, five were online estate agents, three were multi-channelled websites and two were search engines.
