Jeffrey F. Harrold received The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation’s 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award during a ceremony on September 18. This award recognizes industry leaders for their commitment to education, and for their support of the missions of The Griffith Foundation and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC).

Harrold is chairman and CEO of Auto-Owners Insurance Company. He joined Auto-Owners in 1977 upon graduation from Ferris State University, where he majored in Insurance and Management. For 21 years, he worked on the property-casualty side of the business before assuming responsibility for life company operations in 1998. In 2002, he became responsible for all property-casualty branch underwriting operations. Harrold was named executive vice president in 2004. In 2005, he assumed additional responsibility for home office property-casualty underwriting and the marketing division—including sales, marketing, regional sales operations, and agency automation systems support. In July 2008, he was named president of Auto-Owners Insurance Group, and in August 2010, he was named CEO. On August 1, 2011, he was named chairman of the board and CEO.

Harrold holds the CPCU, CLU, and ChFC designations and continues to be involved in industry-related continuing education. He served as chairman for the Insurance Education Institute, and has been involved with Junior Achievement of Mid-Michigan. He earned the NAMIC Merit Award for his commitment to the industry and served on the NAMIC Property Casualty Conference Board. He currently serves as a member of The Institutes’ Board of Trustees and on the Leadership Advisory Board for Ferris State University College of Business.
