Albany, NY (PRWEB) May 21, 2013
Charlie Johns Store, a Big M grocery store, recently completed substantial energy-savings upgrades in their Speculator, NY store. The project, completed by Ballston Lake, NY-based SmartWatt Energy, has shown an immediate reduction in energy usage. The savings from the project are equivalent to the energy needed to power 30 percent of the homes in Speculator for an entire year, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.
To celebrate this impressive achievement and the savings that will benefit their friends, patrons and neighbors, Charlie Johns and SmartWatt are co-hosting “Power to the Community” over Memorial Day Weekend. This free event, which will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 11am-1pm, will feature a BBQ, beer sampling, store sale items, giveaways, live music from WYVS 96.5 and a bounce house for the kids.
“Charlie Johns has been a fixture in the Speculator community for more than 70 years,” said Chris Covell, SmartWatt’s President. “They were an ideal customer, truly committed to investing in upgrades that will benefit their entire community. We enjoyed the opportunity to help them modernize their store for customers, while dramatically reducing their energy consumption and costs.”
The energy savings project included new exterior lighting, roof top units for heating and cooling and a humidity controlled exhaust system for the store’s kitchen. The project also included the addition of lighting and mechanical control systems, building envelope upgrades and the installation of approximately 325 feet of case coolers for refrigerated retail products.
