FIRELOCK® is pleased to announce it has been awarded a GSA Contract. After many years of selling fireproof vaults for government projects through GSA-approved general contractors, FIRELOCK® is finally able to sell direct to government purchasers under GSA Contract # GS-07F-0287V, Schedule 56. The room-sized fireproof vaults manufactured and installed by FIRELOCK® are ideal for protecting historic documents, historic artifacts, microfilm, film masters, computer backup tapes, server rooms and other heat-sensitive assets.

Here are a few examples of the priceless artifacts and critical records currently protected in FIRELOCK® vaults: original 17th Century land purchase agreements between colonists and Native Americans; documents from the Continental Congress reside in several different vault locations; Stradiveri violins and cellos in a private collection; several unique art collections; George Washington's personal papers; countless irreplaceable documents, microfilm and microfiche records for towns and counties all over the U.S.; The Texas State Archives, Indiana State Archives and Washington State's Digital Archives; backup tapes for municipal, county and state agencies.

FIRELOCK® modular server vaults have also been installed to protect electronic equipment, such as critical server rooms and other IT infrastructure. Almost all data centers have some kind of fire suppression system in the server room. However, this fire suppression system is only effective when the fire starts inside the server room. When a fire starts outside the server room and burns its way into the area, the fire suppression system is unable to prevent data loss. It is likely the heat coming through the walls of a conventional server room has already destroyed the IT equipment and the information it holds before the fire even breaches the server room walls. This is why conscientious data center operators employ a FIRELOCK® vault to protect their IT systems.

Vaults are available in these protection ratings:

Class 350 -- For paper documents, the temperature must not exceed 350°F. inside the vault, even if the temperature outside the vault reaches 2,000°F. These document vaults are rated as Class 350-Four Hour, which means the temperature will remain below the critical threshold for at least four hours when exposed to the heat of a catastrophic fire.

Class 125 -- For more heat-sensitive assets like electronic equipment, micrographic media and magnetic media the temperature must not exceed 125°F. even if the temperature outside the vault reaches 2,000°F. These data vaults are rated from Class 125-Two Hour, Three Hour or Four Hour, depending upon the size of the vault. Click here for information on vault sizes and time durations.

According to Todd Smith of FIRELOCK®, "Pursuing a GSA Contract is a rigorous process in which the company history and customer satisfaction ratings were scrutinized." He asserted that it was worth the effort, however, since "federal purchasers now have a streamlined method for acquiring the same level of data protection the private sector has demanded for years." This is a benefit for both taxpayers and the federal employees responsible for the protection of the historic documents, artifacts, or information in their charge.

Vaults are available in a wide range of GSA pre-priced sizes or custom-sized for specific applications, under SIN 361-10E. Installation of these vaults with proprietary technology is performed by FIRELOCK's installation crews and is priced according to the vault size and rating, under SIN 361-30.
