Today Global Technology Transfer Group, Inc. (GTT Group), the world leader in patent asset analysis and monetization services, releases the Q1 2011 Patent Market Index (PMI), an index tracking patent transaction activity and trends in the patent marketplace.

The Q1 2011 PMI continues the steady rise over the last four quarters, accumulating 12 points from 74.1 to 86.2 over the four quarters from Q2 2010 through Q1 2011. This increase continues the recovery begun in 2009 and approaches the 2008 index numbers.

“The increase of 1.4 points to 86.2 from the Q410 PMI of 84.8 indicates the market recovery in the beginning of 2011 slowed slightly from the rapid recovery in the last half of 2010,” stated Michael Lubitz, CEO and Chairman of GTT Group, and inventor of the PMI. “We expect this steady incremental market recovery through 2011, fueled by mobile broadband devices and communications, with corresponding growth in semiconductors, telecommunications, and data storage & retrieval segments.”

Equally positive, the number of Q1 2011 patent asset transfers was higher than patent asset transfers recorded in Q3 2008. The expectation is that this rise will continue rising through expected mergers and acquisitions, and patent related divestment activity.

The Q1 2011 PMI also tracks the Top Ten Most Active Deal Makers, as well as the Top Ten Universities Internal Patent Activity list and External Commercialization Activity list, and a report on Outlook and Activity for the Top Ten Class Codes.
