The campaign is launching with television spots across the Southeast, as well as social media efforts, and is centered around a unique pair of spokesmen – Royal (Roy) and Shelly Redd. Also known as The Vacation Crustaceans, Roy and Shelly are colorful crustacean finger puppets who will provide stories and commentary promoting Gulf Coast vacations.

“For many years, our area was known as the Shrimp Capital of the Coast,” says Kim Fritz, marketing chair for the Gulf Coast Regional Tourism Partnership. “We feel that this concept will not only represent the unique, fun personality of the coast to potential visitors, but will also attempt to cut through the clutter of other tourism destination marketing campaigns.”

GodwinGroup, an integrated marketing, advertising, and digital communications firm in Mississippi and the agency-of-record for the Gulf Coast Regional Tourism Partnership, was behind the creative development of the campaign. The puppets were designed by The Puppet Kitchen in New York City. Logos for The Vacation Crustaceans were developed by Ad.In Advertising in Ocean Springs, Miss., a partnering agency of GodwinGroup.

Television ads have already begun appearing in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, La.; Jackson, Miss.; and Mobile and Montgomery, Ala. To view the first two ads featuring The Vacation Crustaceans, go to http://www.visitmscoast.org.
