And the Telly Award goes to…the George Washington Medical Faculty Associates. The prestigious statuette that honors top cable, film and video productions nationwide has named GW MFA’s entire EpiCURE with the Chef MDs series as a 2013 Bronze Award winner. Winners of this fierce competition were selected from out of nearly 11,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries.
EpiCURE with the Chef MDs pairs many of the nation’s top chefs with top docs from GW MFA to demonstrate healthy, delicious and easy-to-follow recipes. Humorously hosted by former Food Network personality Marc Silverstein, the informative series is aimed at helping viewers live healthier lives simply by improving their diets—tastefully. Among the celebrity DC area chefs taking part: Patrick O’Connell from the Inn at Little Washington, Robert Wiedmaier of Marcel’s, Bob Kinkead of Ancora, Jeff Tunks with Passion Food Hospitality and Chef Geoff Tracy of Chef Geoff’s.
The recipes – from Super Fruit Smoothies to Seared Scallops to Fisherman’s Stew - are aimed to support diabetics, heart patients, pregnant women, cancer patients, and people with food allergies or sensitivities including gluten allergies or lactose intolerance. As a whole, the series serves up great tastes, fresh ingredients and lots of fun. In addition to playing online at http://www.gwdocs.com, the series can also be seen in patient waiting rooms at GW MFA in downtown Washington, D.C., where there are more than a million patient visits a year. More than 1000 of the accompanying cookbooks have been downloaded from the website. To watch the series and download the cookbook, click here.
EpiCURE with the Chef MDs is the perfect complement to GW MFA's mission of providing innovative, comprehensive and accessible patient care. By pairing noted chefs with GW MFA’s physicians, the result is mouth-watering recipes that also help viewers live healthier, longer lives. This is just one of the ways GW MFA is exceeding what's possible and what's expected in healthcare today. And winning the Telly Award is icing on the (low fat, low calorie) cake.
