Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) June 29, 2012
The Hackney Literary Awards announced its newly redesigned website today. The site makes online submission a priority for the contest, recognizing that writers have long relied on digital publishing tools for their craft and the Internet for research and inspiration.
The prestigious annual writing competition was established in 1969 by the Cecil Hackney family to recognize excellence in poetry and fiction, both on a national level and for the state of Alabama.
The competition awards $5,000 total in prizes for short fiction and poetry — $2,500 to national winners and $2,500 for Alabama winners. First place receives $600, second place receives $400, and third place receives $250. Additionally, the Morris Hackney family awards a $5,000 prize for an unpublished novel.
Submissions for the 2012 awards are due this fall. Novels are due by September 30, while poem and short fiction entries are due by November 30. Entry fees vary by category, ranging from $15 to $30 and are available on the website. Winners will be announced in March 2013.
