These commercials represent the kind of work we aspire to: creative advertising that sets our client’s message apart from all the advertising clutter.

Being a business owner is tough. Being a business owner in these current financial times is even tougher when survival rates are so low. But when a marketing and advertising company called Half a Bubble Out grows 400% in 2009 you know there are some bright spots amongst the regular headlines of lost jobs and failing companies. Unfortunately many businesses do not see this kind of growth and become part of the large failure statistics in the US.
Given these numbers, it’s easy to see how business owners can become discouraged. There just aren’t enough success stories to inspire business owners to believe in what they’re doing and to keep going when times are tough. Half a Bubble Out – a marketing, advertising, and business consulting firm in Chico, CA – was founded in a spare bedroom by Michael and Kathryn Redman in 2002 and, eight years later, is not just surviving, but thriving. In 2009, the company gratefully witnessed a growth of 400% and has been out of the spare bedroom for several years.
How did this happen? Half a Bubble Out believes in truly listening to clients and in using technology and unusual creativity to tell their clients’ stories. As an example, First 5 Butte County Children and Families Commission recently asked Half a Bubble Out to design a commercial campaign on the dangers of second-hand smoke. Taking an informal and upbeat approach, Half a Bubble Out’s commercials creatively feature company co-founder and CEO Michael Redman dressed in a white lab coat and explaining – in playfully graphic detail – how cigarettes and cigarette smoke are filled with arsenic, formaldehyde, and tar. The latest video in the series shows Michael using a Shopvac that is smoking 680 cigarettes all at once to demonstrate how gross smoking is. 680 cigarettes is equal to a pack a day for an entire month.
This commercial campaign was recently awarded two Telly Awards for excellence in advertising. The entire campaign, “Effects of Second Hand Smoke 1, 2 & 3,” won bronze in the “Campaign – Not for Profit” category and their individual commercial, “Effects of Second Hand Smoke 1,” won bronze in the “Public Service” category. “Every year we work hard to listen to our clients, create great marketing for them, and help them achieve their goals” says Redman. “These commercials represent the kind of work we aspire to: creative advertising that sets our client’s message apart from all the advertising clutter.”
Since 2002, Half a Bubble Out has creatively served clients nationwide in the areas of marketing, advertising, graphic design, web design, videography, and business consulting. Driven by the company motto of “Telling Your Story,” Half a Bubble Out co-founders Michael and Kathryn Redman have always sought and continue to seek to encourage and equip clients to achieve their goals and increase their profits with creativity and excellence in the 21st century marketplace.
