Destination Halifax introduces innovative social media tools for consumers along with a new look for the tourism organization’s website

"With Halifax Sociable! the intent is to echo [the] friendliness and warmth in the social media world to give people a taste of what they’ll get when they arrive in Halifax..." says Patricia Lyall, President and CEO of Destination Halifax

The term ‘sociable’ and the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia have long been synonymous. On March 23, Destination Halifax took the concept a step further with the launch of their new online community, Halifax Sociable!

Halifax Sociable! is an online community that connects people to the organization’s social media channels including blogs, contests, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube. “The concept of the sociable is one that most Nova Scotians and many visitors are familiar with, but it’s much more than simply raising a glass,” says Patricia Lyall, President and CEO of Destination Halifax. “It’s the reality that in Halifax people feel at home. Our hospitality and friendly people are world-renowned. With Halifax Sociable! the intent is to echo that friendliness and warmth in the social media world to give people a taste of what they’ll get when they arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia and explore our region.”

Along with Halifax Sociable!, Destination Halifax launched an updated website, which includes an itinerary-building tool that helps visitors plan their trip to the region, from Halifax hotels to dining to entertainment. “Increasingly, people are using the internet to plan travel,” says Lyall. “Our job is to make it as easy as possible for them. The itinerary tool is one of many tweaks we’ve made to ensure the site can be a valuable information source for people interested in visiting Halifax.”

Both sites were formally launched at the organization’s Annual General Meeting, held on March 23 at Alderney Landing Theatre in Dartmouth, attended by Destination Halifax members, government officials and industry stakeholders. “Destination Halifax is devoted to being a best-practices marketing organization, and to bringing tourism business to the greater Halifax region,” says Stuart Jolliffe, Chairman of the Destination Halifax board of directors. “It was important for us to show our members how we’re adapting and growing in response to new online channels available to potential visitors.”
