Marking over 2 million cruise passengers with a special celebration is a way to recognize our appreciation of all the ships that visit Halifax.
Halifax, Nova Scotia (PRWEB) July 28, 2009
On July 23, Halifax celebrated the arrival of more than 2 million cruise passengers into port since 1980. Halifax cruise passengers were greeted with dockside fanfare and the Captain and senior staff of the MS Maasdam, along with several cruise passengers from the Holland America Line vessel, enjoyed a special Taste of Nova Scotia luncheon, joined by partners from the Halifax region.
"The cruise sector is a key developmental market of the Halifax tourism industry," says Lynn Ledwidge, Destination Halifax Director of Marketing. "Marking over 2 million cruise passengers with a special celebration is a way to recognize our appreciation of all the ships that visit Halifax.""
Each day that a cruise ship is docked in Halifax is an opportunity, says Ledwidge. "Cruise visitors get a taste of what Halifax and Nova Scotia has to offer, whether they take advantage of one of the many shore excursions offered, or explore on their own," she says. "It is our hope that this small taste of the destination will leave them wanting more and encourage them to return for Halifax vacations on land."
Destination Halifax is working with local industry members to develop new ways to bring cruise passengers back to Nova Scotia. "Halifax is a fantastic city, with so many things to see and experience," says Dennis Campbell, President of Ambassatours Gray Line. "The day excursions offer a great way to explore a small piece of the region, and we encourage people to come back and spend more time in Halifax."
It's easy for cruise passengers to plan Halifax vacations. There is always something happening, from year-round festivals and events, nightly live music, museums, Parks Canada sites, galleries and easy access to nature. Halifax hotels are accessible to all the action, and there is local and international cuisine on offer at Halifax restaurants.
