MSSD chooses Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa as their spa of the week for their commitment to helping cancer survivors.

This week Massage School San Diego applauds Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Denver, Colorado for their philanthropic efforts. The Denver Post reports that spa owner Julie Bulatovic has, “Always believed in alternative healing — and massage is part of that stress reduction, energy collection, energy healing.” MSSD appreciates that Julie Bulatovic is using her massage business to give back to others. The spa offers cancer survivors and their caregivers a free massage for their first visit and then half off their continued treatments over the following six months. MSSD recognizes that the therapists have been specifically trained in the techniques of oncology massage which is important when dealing with the unique needs of recovering cancer patients. Several massage therapy schools have specialized oncology massage classes.

Along with Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, MSSD feels that massage therapy can be extremely beneficial. The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine reports on the various benefits of massage therapy for cancer patients. Studies have shown massage therapy improves patients’ immune system including increased white blood cell counts. The studies also show a reduction in patients’ pain, anxiety and stress levels. With all these proven benefits MSSD believes massage therapy should be available for all cancer survivors and realizes what Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa is offering to these cancer patients is special.

MSSD feels another topic for cancer patients to consider is the importance of a raw food diet. WebMD reports on studies that show eating raw vegetables can help reduce the risk of several types of cancer. Increasing the raw vegetables in one’s diet and including vegetables such as broccoli, kale, cabbage and Brussels sprouts can actually alter the proteins in cancer cells.

Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa is going out of their way to help cancer survivors in need of extra care. MSSD feels they need to be recognized for their good deeds and chooses to honor them as their spa of the week.
