Following Thurrock Council’s a competitive tendering process, in 2009, Hanover overcame stiff competition from other housing associations to once again demonstrate its commitment to developing high quality housing for older people with care and support needs.

Claire Anderson, Director of Extra Care and Services, said: “We are delighted to have secured HCA funding and are hugely excited about working with Thurrock Council on its first new purpose-built Extra Care housing scheme.

“Hanover will shortly submit a planning application to build 18 one bedroom and 47 two bedroom apartments and we hope to secure permission in early 2011. If all goes well, we expect to start on site in spring 2011.”

Cllr John Kent, Leader of Thurrock Council, said: “The council is delighted by the news that the HCA has agreed funding for this landmark project on the former Elizabeth House and Long Lane leisure hall site. It will make a huge difference to the quality of lives of our residents.”

"The council will be working closely with Hanover to ensure that top-quality provision of Extra Care housing and support is created on this site."

“Extra Care housing offers long-term security for older people while also allowing them to maintain their independence and give them real choice and
control over their lives as they grow older – it is excellent news for Thurrock.”
