HarperCollins Publishers today announced the launch of a new content-rich author Web site network at http://www.harpercollins.com. The sites are powered by AuthorAssistant, http://www.harpercollinsauthors.com, a new proprietary online application that enables authors to create and post information, images and links quickly and easily. This new author network is a central destination where fans can find exclusive, comprehensive, and authoritative information on their favorite authors. Forty authors from HarperCollins’ Avon imprint are participating in the pilot program with the mission of “Helping Authors Create and Connect.” This utilization of online technology to support authors on the Web marks the latest development in HarperCollins’ industry-leading digital and direct-to-consumer marketing efforts.

“Our AuthorAssistant tool, and these stunning new Author Pages, demonstrate how we are harnessing our power and scale as a publisher to add value for authors, while connecting them with fans who want more from them,” said Jane Friedman, President and CEO of HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide.

Upon visiting the http://www.harpercollins.com site, consumers will find personalized content created and uploaded by authors, including new:

  • Comprehensive biographical information, including author timelines
  • What authors are working on now
  • An author selected list of press and articles
  • Links to author blogs and favorite online destinations
  • Photo albums, news, essays, and more

Visitors can also access an individual author’s network, which connects consumers with other like-minded individuals or recommends writers across different genres and imprints. The Author Pages can be updated as often as each author desires, providing consumers with fresh and original information every time they visit.

“The Author Assistant tool and the new Web pages it helps us create enriches and expands our authors’ online reach and enables new fans to discover them through our Avon community,” said Liate Stehlik, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Avon. “We are committed to serving our authors by helping them navigate and embrace the quickly changing online marketing landscape.”

Avon Romance authors were selected for the pilot program based on their strong community and existing connection with fans. Several authors have played a key role in the development process, providing feedback and recommendations during the entire process of development. Plans are underway to roll out the program on a global scale, to add video and to enable third-party syndication of this content.

“We worked very closely with authors to create something that saves them time, gives them choices about how they want to market themselves and provides them with all the advantages of being within our search optimized network of sites,” said Carolyn Pittis, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing Strategy and Operations. “The quick author adoption rate proves the high value of this unique, marketing service.”

HarperCollins will also use the tool to contextually cross-market authors throughout the entire site, allowing authors to engage with the millions of users already visiting harpercollins.com.
