Leading moving enterprise, Harrington Moving & Storage, recently designed an advanced technique to transport pianos without the pianos losing their tune.

We know how to move pianos, my men have moved hundreds of pianos, but more than just moving them, we really want to keep them tuned. We are specifically famous for our piano moving services, and have been for over 16 years, now we just do it better.

Harrington Moving is no stranger to transporting pianos, however, recently the company designed, with the aid of its movers, a new, advanced method in transporting pianos without them losing their tune.

“I play piano and own a few pianos so I know pianos need special attention during the moving process due to their delicate wood frame, parts and sensitive tuning. It only takes a small drop of the piano for possible damage to occur,” said Jeff Harrington, owner of Harrington Moving & Storage. “One of the movers approached me and suggested the technique, as a child he was a pianist and still plays time-to-time, so I said ‘why not? Let’s start working on further designing the technique.’”

Harrington Moving & Storage has been working diligently to improve their piano transporting methods, their first clients to test the new technique were Leslie and Michael Reed.

Leslie and Michael Reed are both working professionals, they have three children: twins, Laura and Mia, 6; and Rachel, 2. Their 16-hour days are filled with cleaning, changing diapers, taking children to their caretaker, working, picking children up from their caretaker, preparing dinner, cleaning, sleeping, attending to a crying child, sleeping.

Recently, in early March, Leslie Reed was offered a consulting job in New York City. Accepting the job offer meant the Reed family had to relocate to New York.

The Reed family did not have the time or energy to deal with packing their four-bedroom suburban home, so after consulting friends and family members, they were refereed to Harrington Movers.

“I heard raving reviews about Harrington Moving & Storage,” said Michael Reed, 34, also a financial consultant. “Honestly, the influencing factor was our Steinway Piano.”

The Reed family owns a heirloom Steinway Piano, it belonged to Michael’s mother and her mother.

“The piano is huge, it has been in our family for generations,” Michael said.

Harrington Moving & Storage instantly organized the house to begin packing its contents. They provided the supplies and thoroughly tackled each room and gathered its belongings. Within three days, the house was fully packed and the Reed family was ready to move to their new home.

“We work fast and relentlessly to provide the very best for our customers,” said Jeff Harrington, owner of Harrington Moving & Storage. “Our careful movers and packers are expertly trained to pack items of any quantity, value, or fragility, from a library case to a cabinet of fine china.”

However, after the boxes and furniture were loaded on the truck, arrived the team’s testing moment - transporting the 540-pound piano. With the help of a crane and window removal strategy, Harrington Moving & Storage implemented their new technique and successfully transported it to its new home; its tuning remained untouched.

“We know how to move pianos, my men have moved hundreds of pianos, but more than just moving them, we really want to keep them tuned,” Harrington said. “We are specifically famous for our piano moving services, and have been moving pianos for over 16 years, now we just do it better.”
