I am very honored and appreciative to the American Lawyer staff for selecting me. This award speaks to our firm’s success as a collective team. Our company culture is unlike any other, making it a very special place to work.
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) June 01, 2011
Firm co-founder and Partner Mike Boone has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2011 Law Firm Distinguished Leader Award by The American Lawyer, which annually honors an individual whose contributions to law and society have made positive impacts.
“We are pleased to congratulate Mike on this outstanding national honor,” said Managing Partner Terry Conner. “He is truly deserving of this award, and we thank him for his dedication and service to Haynes and Boone and our clients. Mike embodies all traits of a true leader and sets the bar high for us when it comes to professional and community service.”
Past winners of the Distinguished Leader Award include Ben Johnson III of Alston & Bird and Alfred Youngwood of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.
“This is a great honor to receive in the legal profession, and I am very honored and appreciative to the American Lawyer staff for selecting me,” said Mr. Boone. “This award speaks to our firm’s success as a collective team. Our company culture is unlike any other, making it a very special place to work.”
Under Mr. Boone’s guidance and mentoring, the Haynes and Boone Corporate Practice Group has developed into a nationally respected resource for top Fortune 1000 firms. “We’ve nurtured a diverse team of corporate attorneys with deep knowledge and experience in all facets of business law,” said Jan Sharry, a former head of the Corporate Finance Practice who serves on the firm’s board of directors. “That’s a big reason we have been named by Corporate Board Member magazine as the No. 1 corporate law firm in Dallas-Fort Worth.”
In the last decade, Mr. Boone has served as a tireless private-sector advocate for Texas public schools. He served as president of the Highland Park School Board and has participated in the school finance debate as a respected voice for equity in school funding, demonstrating courage and leadership, often resisting popular opinion in the business community in favor of a practical, equitable solution.
In 2005, his firm led the fight for more equitable funding, filing suit on behalf of a coalition of 47 school districts that educate more than 1 million Texas schoolchildren (case No. 04-1144). The Texas Supreme Court ultimately sided in favor of the school districts, ordering lawmakers to pass a new education funding system before the 2006-2007 school year.
For his lifelong service and commitment to Texas public education, Mr. Boone accepted the second annual “Friend of the Year” honor from the Friends of Texas Public Schools organization in 2006.
Mr. Boone’s giving spirit has led to recognition as a recent inductee of the Junior Achievement Dallas Business Hall of Fame, as well as Distinguished Alumnus of Southern Methodist University and the Dedman School of Law. The Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary honored his long-standing dedication to volunteerism with the Justinian Award for Public Service. And Mr. Boone’s history of applying consensus-building to solve community issues has led the Dallas Bar Association to name him recipient of the Jack Lowe Sr. Award for Community Leadership.
Other categories in The American Lawyer Awards program include lifetime achievement, top 20 firms and best legal department. Honorees will be featured in the September issue of The American Lawyer and at an Oct. 26 gala event at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.
