The Houston Business-Education Coalition (HBEC) is pleased to announce that they have endorsed two candidates, Anna Eastman (District 1) and Michael Lunceford (District 5) for the Fall Houston Independent School District (HISD) Election.
"We interviewed all candidates and carefully considered responses to a detailed questionnaire," said Jonathan Day, HBEC PAC Chair. "Both Anna and Mike are outstanding community leaders with a strong record in supporting our public schools. They are both committed to improving student academic performance and reducing our unacceptable drop-out rate. HBEC is grateful for their involvement in this process."
HBEC is comprised of 15 business and professional leaders who are vitally interested in the quality of the leadership on the HISD Board. Members of the HBEC PAC are:

About Anna Eastman - District 1 - Near North Side
Anna Eastman is a resident of the Heights and a product of public schools in Richardson, Texas. Anna graduated from the University of Texas in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History. She received a Master of Social Work in 1993 from Our Lady of the Lake University.
While receiving her Masters, Anna worked for Providence Home in San Antonio, a foster home and daycare for children infected with HIV/AIDS. She provided transportation for non-resident children so they could participate in their daycare program. She served as an advocate for these children and organized day care/summer-camp for program participants. After receiving her Masters, she worked as a lead Social Worker for Communities in Schools at Gardendale Elementary in the Edgewood District in San Antonio.
Today, Anna is an at-home mom who devotes her time on various community projects. One of those is Recipe For Success which is a non-profit 501(c)3 charity dedicated to combating childhood obesity by changing the way children understand, appreciate and eat their food. About Michael Lunceford - District 5 - Neat South West
Mike is a native Texan who attended McNamara and Elrod Elementary School, Fondren Middle School and Westbury High School. He graduated from high school in Tyler, Texas, after moving there with his family. Mike received his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1981 and has spent nearly 30 years in the energy business. He is currently the Vice President of Engineering at Pedernales Energy. This experience as a leader in both operations management and business, as well as his passion for public education, has led Mike to seek the position of HISD Trustee for District V.
Since being nominated by former Superintendent Kaye Stripling in 2003, Mike has served as a member of the HISD Bond Oversight Committee. The Bond Oversight Committee is an independent citizens committee established to monitor the progress of "Rebuild HISD," a voter-approved $805 million plan, and ensure that it is staying on track and delivering the plan the voters approved. On the committee, Mike works to ensure our students are receiving the greatest possible benefit of every tax dollar spent. Mike also currently serves on the HISD District V Leadership Team, the HISD Parent Visionaries and the Building Committee for Planning New Schools at Horn Elementary.
As a parent volunteer, Mike has served as the Horn Elementary PTO Treasurer, Auction Co-Chair and Chair of the Master Plan Committee. Mike was also a member of the Building Committee for Planning New Schools for campuses at Pin Oak and Pershing Middle Schools.
