The Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) announced the 2009 CDI Professional of the Year on Thursday, April 16.
Marblehead, MA (PRWEB) May 4, 2009 -- The Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) announced the 2009 CDI Professional of the Year on Thursday, April 16.
After reviewing the nominations, the 2009 ACDIS Conference Committee selected Beth Kennedy, RN, BS, CCS, assistant director of documentation improvement at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, NY. In recognition of her accomplishment and dedication to the CDI profession, Kennedy will receive free admission to the second annual ACDIS Conference May 14-15, in Las Vegas, and receive an award during its Networking and Awards Luncheon. She will also be featured in the upcoming issue of CDI Journal, ACDIS' quarterly newsletter.
Kennedy has more than 30 years of nursing experience in the areas of critical care, medical surgery, labor and delivery, and pediatrics. She built on this clinical knowledge base and for more than 20 years and worked to improve documentation through diagnostic related group (DRG) validation and optimization. "She's every medical center's ideal associate to jumpstart a documentation improvement program," says Ann-Marie Carducci, RN, MPA, CPHQ, CPUR, CPC, CCS, director of utilization management for Montefiore Medical Center.
The Conference Committee also awarded two ACDIS members for Recognition of CDI Professional Achievement. The two winners are Lynne Spryszak, RN, CPC-A, senior consultant for FTI Healthcare in Brentwood, TN (and formerly of Alexian Brothers Medical Center), and Wendy Clesi, RN, director of the documentation excellence department for Ochsner Health System in New Orleans.
"All three of these nominees are outstanding representatives of the CDI profession," says Brian Murphy, CPC, ACDIS director. "Accurate and complete medical record documentation is of utmost importance in today's healthcare system, and all three of these individuals embody the best qualities of the Clinical Documentation Improvement specialist."
About ACDIS:
The creation of the Association for Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) on October 1, 2007, coincided with the debut of Medicare severity diagnosis-related groups (MS-DRGs). This new coding and reimbursement system requires physicians to document exacting degrees of specificity. Their documentation--and the corresponding coded data ultimately reported to Medicare and private insurers--drive hospital reimbursement and support quality improvement initiatives.
ACDIS believes in the inherent benefit of appropriate and complete medical record documentation on the quality of healthcare. Its mission is to serve as the premier healthcare community for clinical documentation specialists, providing a medium for education, professional growth, program recognition, and networking.
Since its inception ACDIS has grown to more than 1,500 members with local chapters in more than a dozen states. ACDIS is sponsored by HCPro, Inc., a portfolio company of Halyard Investments, providing information, advice, consulting, and research on healthcare regulation and revenue cycle management.
