NASHVILLE, TN (PRWEB) August 14, 2006
New healthcare technology is now being utilized to will help Tennessee’s rural hospitals keep healthcare costs down and allow them to deliver higher quality patient care through performance monitoring.
The Tennessee Hospital Association (THA), in conjunction with LBMC eHealth Solutions and eTransX, just completed deployment of a web-based healthcare decision support tool to 28 hospitals across the state that participate in the THA Small and Rural Toolbox (SRT).
The SRT group is comprised of Tennessee hospitals that work both collectively and in peer groups to collaborate for improvement on their clinical, financial and operational performances. THA collects seven critical operational indicators, submitted quarterly by members, which are aggregated and summarized in a report format. These include financial performance indicators, such as supply expenses, labor expenses, bad debt, average number of days in accounts receivable and FTEs per patient day.
The SRT web service now provides an easy-to-use interface using graphics, charts, trendlines, and dashboards that allow hospitals to quickly examine their performances versus peer hospital performances, as well as national performance targets. The service also provides a contact function that allows members to network with other members via email while using the tool. The intent is to provide quick healthcare decision support and analysis for the hospital administrative staff and facilitate collaboration among administrators in SRT facilities.
“The SRT reporting contains a lot of valuable information,” said Craig A. Becker, THA president. “This service allows our members to interpret that information in a fraction of the time it would take to analyze the paper reports. It also allows members to select other hospitals for comparative analysis and see the results in trendlines, bar graphs and dashboards instead of pages of data.”
Results from a recent survey showed all participating hospitals agree the service is easy to use and navigate. Nearly all hospitals surveyed found the information to be “very valuable.”
The service was created through the collaborative efforts of THA, LBMC eHealth Solutions and eTransX. The team approach utilized the information and knowledge of THA, the healthcare technology expertise and hosting capabilities of LBMC eHealth, and the integration and healthcare business intelligence software prowess of eTransX.
“Our goal was to use the strengths of the respective development team members to create a powerful tool for THA members by combining the strengths of our organizations in a creative and strategic way. The next step would be to use the same approach for individual hospitals that want to unleash the information locked away in various hospital systems and spreadsheets to create focused solutions in areas such as quality benchmarking, claim and accounts receivable resolution, or the analysis of clinical metrics,” said Tom Tarver, president, LBMC eHealth Solutions.
P. Mohan, president, eTransX, added, "This approach will provide the executive management of small, rural hospitals with the same power and healthcare technology sophistication employed by the largest healthcare organizations to affect holistic, integrated performance monitoring."
