The peanuts came out of the Sunland Foods processing plant in Portales, New Mexico and are thought to be in 76 products that have been recalled. Although other foods may be susceptible to salmonella bacteria, it was thought that perhaps the type of salmonella present (salmonella Bredeney) was more resistant to the plant’s peanut cleaning or roasting process. In another study cited in Scientific American [How Does Salmonella Get Into Peanut Butter?
