“Obesity is a risk factor in developing breast cancer, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The research is promising that eating more stone fruits could reduce the risk of developing all these conditions.” Mark Rosenberg, M.D.

Stone fruits – like peaches, plums and nectarines – have recently been the subject of new medical research, says According to Texas’AgriLife Research Lab [Peaches, Plums, Nectarines give obesity, diabetes a slim chance, ScienceDaily June 2012, and Identifying peach and plum polyphenols with chemopreventive potential against estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells, J Agric Food Chem. 2009 Jun 24;57(12):5219-26], stone fruits were found in new research to kill breast cancer cells, fight diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The findings revealed that very aggressive breast cancer cells in lab could not survive when treated with extracts from peaches and plums. As well, the same phenolic compounds in these fruits reduced the size of fat cells, removed dead cells, protected vascular linings and reduced the oxidation of LDL “bad” cholesterol that leads to dangerous cardiovascular plaques. Obesity is a major risk factor for development of diabetes and its associated condition of cardiovascular disease.

Mark Rosenberg, M.D.,’s resident medical expert comments, “The results of these new research studies have both delighted and amazed me. They could mean that using toxic chemotherapy may soon be a thing of the past. Soon, we may just be able to use only the phenolic compounds from these fruit extracts to treat breast cancer. In addition, the impact of stone fruits phenolic compounds on conditions that precede “diabesity” (obesity related diabetes), such as reducing fat cells and reducing LDL oxidation, are hugely encouraging. The best thing is that these benefits are derived from non-toxic natural substances and not synthetic drugs that can have serious side effects.”
