Only 25% of people with hearing loss have sought treatment. There is a whole wonderful world out there to hear and understand.
Burton MI (PRWEB) October 05, 2012
Lindy Chaffins hasn’t always been dispensing hearing aids in Burton MI. As a child she had her sights set on a different career when a chance encounter with an audiologist at a volunteer event set her on a different path. In this Michigan Business Biography TV segment, Lindy shares her passion for helping her community hear better – one person at a time.
Lindy studied Audiology at Wayne State University receiving her Master Degree in 1977 after which she studied under several ENT doctors in the Flint Michigan area. In 1990 she opened Professional Hearing Clinic at its present location in Burton MI near the intersection of I-69 and Center Road in the Park Place Center.
Somewhat ironically, after launching her own audiology practice, Lindy’s daughter’s hearing was damaged in her mid twenties as a side-effect of prescription medication. Lindy was able to diagnose her daughter’s hearing loss and program a digital hearing aid for her to wear so that she could once again hear her daughter’s voice. Lindy’s granddaughter was only a toddler at the time that her mom lost her hearing. Imagine the sorrow of missing your child’s first words, first day at kindergarten or having to lip-read for parent teacher conferences.
Hearing aids can help so many people yet, according to Lindy, “only 25% of people with hearing loss have sought treatment. There is a whole wonderful world out there to hear and understand.” In the news segment she urges anyone suffering from hearing loss to have a complete hearing exam including a look inside the ear canal and a digital audiogram.
