Breakthrough Testing For Early Heart Disease - In the Doctor's Office

Everyone is at risk for cardiovascular disease. A quick and painless test may now be performed at the doctor's office to indicate the condition of the arteries in the heart.

Los Angeles (PRWEB) June 16, 2009 -- A newly available diagnostic tool for early detection of heart disease has been developed for use in doctors' offices. "This is state of the art imaging," says Dr. Joseph Sciabbarrasi, a medical doctor who practices holistic medicine in Los Angeles. "We have used this for over a year and are now able to identify patients at risk for stroke and heart attacks that have been missed by other testing."

Utilizing sound waves (ultrasound) which emits no radiation, the technique allows doctors to "see" inside the main artery of the neck to measure several important indicators of disease.

Called "Heart Smart IMT Plus", the images obtained show three measures of risk which standard ultrasound does not fully assess. Measuring the thickness of the carotid artery in the neck as well as the degree of blockage are two of these markers. In addition, the technique shows what type of blockage may be present.

"It is an ideal reflection of what is occurring in the arteries of the heart," Sciabbarrasi notes. "And it is widely accepted as a key way to detect early heart disease."

Heart disease is the number one killer for both men and women, claiming more lives than the next five leading causes of death combined, including cancer. The IMT test is endorsed by both the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology as a proven technique for the early detection of heart disease.

The technique is painless and takes about ten minutes to perform. Results are sent directly to the doctor as a Heart Smart IMT Plus Report Card. "We are now able to slow down, stop and even reverse the progression of heart disease," says Dr. Sciabbarrasi. "It has become a centerpiece in our cardiovascular health program."
