North Carolina Teen Promotes Safe Cycling through Public Service Announcement
HensonFuerst dedicates portion of settlement to promoting bicycle safety.
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) May 20, 2009 -- Clay Allsopp, an 11th grade student at Enloe High School, recently won the HensonFuerst Video Public Service Announcement Contest, which asked area teens to produce videos about cycling safety. Clay's PSA conveyed a simple message while incorporating a youthful indie spirit.

"With a topic as important as bicycle safety, I felt it was most important to get the audience to understand the idea of sharing the road in a time when bicycles are becoming more widely used in response to environmental and economic concerns," said Clay, who started at age 7 making videos with the family camcorder and his action figures.
During a ceremony at Enloe High School on May 19, several members of HensonFuerst presented Clay with his prize, which includes a $1,500 gift card and local television placement of the winning PSA, which began airing May 18. HensonFuerst also donated $500 to Enloe High School.
"With college coming up, I'm definitely thinking about my needs for the next few years and long-term saving," Clay said. "With the economy in recession and budgets getting cut, our school system could use some extra help, and it makes me feel good when I can help in my own way."
The contest resulted in many outstanding entries, so the firm included two honorable mention prizes for Sidhartha Jandhyala, a 9th grader at Hillside New Tech High School, and Evan Mann, an 11th grader at Cary Academy. They each received $75 for their entries. Additionally, students who didn't place in the contest each received $25 for their time and hard work.
"We are so impressed with the talent of the students who entered the PSA contest, and it's been an honor for HensonFuerst to host a contest that conveys the importance of safe bicycling," said
attorney Thomas Henson Jr.
The PSAs, which were judged on students' abilities to promote cycling safety and produce quality videos, can be found on the HensonFuerst Web site at www.lawmed.com/contest.
Last year, the firm represented the husband of a local cyclist who, while riding her bike, was killed by a motorist. Members of the firm pledged all of the attorney fees from the case to fund bike safety and awareness programs, such as the PSA contest and a series of cycling safety videos featuring Thomas Henson Jr., who is both an attorney and avid cyclist.
