The Web site and the video serve as reminders that no red-blooded American should ever forget the great risk takers that achieved lofty goals and attained an everlasting place in American history.

Legendary American composer and lyricist L. Russell Brown launches HeroesAndRibbons.com, a Web site targeting K-12 educators and students. In addition to offering free educational resources, Heroes and Ribbons features original music and video by Brown.
“HeroesAndRibbons.com and my music video, “These Are My Heroes,” are personal milestones,” says Brown, Co-Founder of Heroes and Ribbons. “The Web site and the video serve as reminders that no red-blooded American should ever forget the great risk takers that achieved lofty goals and attained an everlasting place in American history.”
Heroes and Ribbons offers free educational resources for teachers to incorporate into their existing curriculum. Suggested activities and lesson plans are divided into three different categories: preschool through grade 1; grades 2-5; and grades 9-12. Additionally, the Web site integrates a regularly updated blog for students to comment on posts about everyday heroes, acts of bravery, or other inspiring content.
HeroesAndRibbons.com features a library of biographies of conventional and non-traditional American icons, from Thomas Jefferson to Rosa Parks to Johnny Cash. The Web site also documents the history of Awareness ribbons such as the Red Ribbon (for AIDS awareness), the Pink Ribbon (for Breast Cancer Awareness), and the Yellow Ribbon (for military support and made popular by Brown’s hit song, “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree”). “These Are My Heroes,” an original DVD created by Brown, commemorates American heroes and is also available on the Web site.
“We are very excited to release HeroesAndRibbons.com,” says Stephen Metz, music producer and Co-Founder of Heroes and Ribbons. “It is an important resource that not only educates students and teachers, but celebrates the lives of some of America’s greatest public figures.”
