edu1world - Connecting People - Leading Higher Education Conversations

We are so grateful for such strong vendor leadership. Thanks to our vendor partners, we have some amazing new tools in store for our users in the coming months. We can’t wait to see where we land on our second anniversary.

One year ago this month, edu1world.org launched a new kind of website with a groundbreaking intention: to deliver a state of the art web 2.0 SaaS application that builds transparency between technology vendors and educational institutions and unites the vendor community with the education industry for the benefit of all. With 10% growth every month since their inception, the edu1world vision is now being realized as projected. Not only is the worldwide higher education technology community embracing the site in ever increasing numbers, but the vendor community is supporting edu1world through active participation, thought leadership and sponsorships.

Free to every employee of every college and university in the world, edu1world now spans the globe with over 11,000 active members from over 70 countries. Members login to access expert content and technology trends; connect, communicate and collaborate with colleagues; share lessons learned; and research best practices and vendors. Full time higher education institution employees from any campus worldwide can register for edu1world membership at no charge.

When they started edu1world, founders Vicki Tambellini and Liz Dietz envisioned the site as an expert community where vendors and members from the higher education sector would come together and share expert content around technology. On their first anniversary, they say they are “delighted” with the result. According to edu1world CEO Tambellini, “More and more technology vendors and consultants are sponsoring edu1world, making it possible for us to continue offering it to higher education at no charge. And the vendors who are supporting the site are not limited to one type of technology, but rather, they span a wide range.”

Earlier in the year, edu1world announced agreements with Datatel, which offers solutions for enterprise resource planning (ERP), student enrollment management (SEM), admissions and marketing, teaching and learning, performance and operational management, and strategic planning; Ciber, Inc, a systems integration consultancy firm specializing in ERP implementations; and Innovativ Consulting Partners, offering management, technical and functional consulting and expertise on both legacy and open source applications. Edu1world’s latest sponsors represent the business intelligence, business analytics and open source application sectors as well.

The integrity and commitment underlying the edu1world vision encourages technology vendors to both participate in existing communities and sponsor new communities on the site. Vendors are sponsoring community collaboration on timely topics such as best practices and open source. They contribute resources by blogging, sharing white papers, and responding online to user requests. They also host educational “Access the Experts” webinars, sponsor newsletters, and sustain the site through monthly financial support.

“You’ll see vendors collaborating and participating in edu1world communities whom you wouldn’t normally see working together,” commented edu1world General Manager Liz Dietz, “We see our vision for vendor transparency and a united community beginning to be realized.”

The edu1world demand for transparency serves as a clarion call to vendors to both lead higher education conversations and welcome scrutiny and dialog. Both Dietz and Tambellini provide editorial commentary on the site. They have promised that vendor financial contributions shall in no way influence content and vendor coverage, and they are keeping that promise.

Says Tambellini, “We are so grateful for such strong vendor leadership. Thanks to our vendor partners, we have some amazing new tools in store for our users in the coming months. We can’t wait to see where we land on our second anniversary.”
