Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 07, 2013
Drivers who are involved in a car crash and flee the scene of the accident can face serious legal repercussions for their actions, according to Gary Martin Hays, a car accident lawyer in Atlanta.
A recent story from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (“Man charged with crash that seriously injured best friends,” August 29) reports that a man in jail on other charges was recently accused of causing a hit and run crash that resulted in serious injuries to pedestrians.
“There’s almost never a good excuse for a driver to leave the scene of an accident,” said Hays, who represents victims of negligence and families whose loved ones were killed in accidents. “It’s illegal to flee the scene. Drivers must stop and exchange information after an accident. Furthermore, they must help someone who might be injured and needs immediate medical attention.”
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, two women who were sitting on a wall at an Atlanta park were struck by a driver who left the roadway on Aug. 24. The women were dragged a short distance and then pinned underneath the vehicle, according to the report.
While the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that neither woman was killed in the accident, one victim suffered broken bones and fractures and the other faced amputation in light of her injuries. The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled the scene of the accident on foot after crashing into a fence, the story said.
“Make no mistake about it, illegal actions carry serious consequences in Atlanta,” said Hays, a lawyer in Atlanta for car accidents. “Victims who have had their lives altered as a result of a hit-and-run accident might have grounds to file a lawsuit against the negligent party who caused the accident and may be entitled to compensation for the injuries they’ve sustained. An attorney can help protect their rights and send a message that hit-and-run accidents will not be tolerated in Georgia.”
