Hole-In-One Nets $10,000 to Lucky Golfer -- Thorpe Capital Group Sponsors Hole-In-One Contest

James Frisby hit the shot of his life on July 14, 2006. That one swing of the club yielded a $10,000 check paid last Friday by the Thorpe Capital Group, which sponsored the contest at the annual MountainWest Capital Network Tournament.

“It’s surreal. It’s all like a dream,” Frisby said when he picked up the $10,000 check. He explained that when he called his wife to tell her, she didn’t believe him, “she’s seen me golf,” he said. She only realized it wasn’t a joke when a neighbor called to congratulate her.

When asked what he would do with the money, Frisby said, “I’ve already bought a new set of clubs.” The balance, he noted, would be saved for college tuition for his two children.

The MountainWest Capital Network hosts the golf tournament each summer. This year, as has been the tradition for the last several years, the tournament was held at the South Mountain Golf Course in Draper, Utah. The pro there noted that this was the first time a golfer has hit a hole-in-one on that course when a cash prize was paid.
